THE ESTATE

Auchleeks Estate is situated in a lovely part of Highland Perthshire in the very heart of Scotland. The landscape is vast and varied, the moorland habitat is dotted with hill lochs and reserves of peat, there are several native pine and broadleaf woodlands along with grasslands on the lower ground either side of the Errochty river which runs down the glen.

The estate is family owned and run and has been for four generations.  The family live on the estate and manage the land with a continual focus on helping nature to thrive. It's now time to share that vision as we continue the journey to put climate and biodiversity at the heart of everything we do and of course a vision that allows you to experience the diverse flora and fauna for yourself with a stay in our self-catering accommodation.

FORESTRY

The sustainable management of both native and commercial woodland is a key element of the estate. Over the past 10 years we have planted over 400,000 trees as part of 4 new woodland creation projects, this in addition to the ongoing management of existing mature mixed woodland.  Our woods are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and 3 woodland creation projects are registered with the Woodland Carbon Code meaning they are validated as being able to capture over 3,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide over their lifetime.

We plan to continue to manage all the woods sensitively taking into account the wider landscape and habitat.  Some woodland is commercial but much, including 3 native scots pine woodlands planted in 2000, are amenity woodlands which provide multiple and biodiverse habitats for many species.

SPORTING

As part of the East Loch Ericht Deer Management Group, we manage the deer population within guidelines agreed with NatureScot. Our experienced stalker knows the ground intimately and special days on the hill are enjoyed by visitors who return year after year. Opportunities are available to stalk during the carefully managed cull, for more information please get in touch using the button below.

NATURE

We take our role of managing the land seriously and have, for many years, placed a strong emphasis on promoting biodiversity, creating and caring for mixed wildlife habitats and ensuring responsible land use.  The fruits of this approach to responsible land management can be seen in the many species which thrive in the area.  Some of the birds are of course visitors coming here to breed each year so the variety increases dramatically from early spring and through the summer.  We are very fortunate to have some very special birds including many of the UK raptor species and iconic upland birds such as blackgame which thrive in the mixed habitats here.  This is why we have chosen a black grouse as our logo.
